I think this guy has really got it spot on. You need to follow your passion. If you loose that you’re just going through life with no meaning. I am a firm believer that if you do what you love and be the best you can at it you will eventually make money doing whatever it is. He talks about people that give up after trying something and not getting any monetary payoff right away. That is not me, and it’s not how I plan to build Laid-Back Life. I’m in it for the long haul.
Take Tony Hawk, he was passionate about skate boarding, if I was his dad I probably would have thought there is no way you could make a living skate boarding. But he followed his passion and I’d say he is doing pretty darn good. There are many people throughout history that followed their dreams or passions and it did eventually pay off. Thomas Edison, took 1,000 attempts at making a light bulb before he finally got it to work. I’m really glad he didn’t give up. Or how about Walt Disney who was told ‘he lacked imagination and had no good ideas’. Boy where they wrong.
For me it’s less about the money and more about doing what I love. It’s not even about selling the T shirts (although it really does help), but it’s about my passion to create and design something that conveys a message, whether it is about chilling’ out, hanging’ out or just being Laid-Back like the logo says. I put a part of myself in all the designs I create. That is what I am striving for and it is a great feeling to know that I also share the same feeling with those that buy my designs.
I am thankful for every single thing I create and sell, from a small sticker to a case of shirts. As long as I can keep pursuing my dream I know it will eventually pay off. I feel too many people give up before they even get to start. If I can be an inspiration to those who have tried and failed to try again, that is what I believe would make me feel successful.
